Social Capital Partners can provide financing to both for-profit and not-for-profit social enterprises. Please refer to the Investment Criteria page for more information.

Loans:

Social Capital Partners can arrange loans for enterprises to finance the growth of established operations. The amount of loan financing available is generally C$30,000 to C$200,000 with the potential for further funding if certain financial and social benchmarks are met. Interest rates will vary depending on the size and risk profile of the investment but are typically lower than those offered by traditional financial institutions.

Equity / Near Equity:

Social Capital Partners can arrange equity and near equity financing for enterprises in the growth phase of operations. Although equity financing is only available to for-profit enterprises, non-profits can access a range of near-equity financing structures. Near-equity financing may include, for example, subordinated debt, mezzanine financing, convertible debt or preferred debt. The amount of equity and near-equity financing available is generally C$100,000 to C$250,000 with potential for further funding if certain financial and social benchmarks are met. Expected rates of return will vary depending on the size and risk profile of the investment but are typically lower than those expected by traditional financial institutions.

Grants:

Grants are not a significant component of Social Capital Partners’ funding framework at this time. In rare circumstances SCP may consider strategic use of grants, but only for social enterprises that are operating within a registered charity, to establish a sustainable livelihoods framework.
